When you start shopping for dresses for your little one, keep in mind which season your baby will be born in. If she is born in summer, you can buy a slightly lighter dress. However, keep in mind that even in the hottest seasons, newborn babies have a hard time regulating their body temperature. If you buy your baby a tank top dress, you may want to first dress her in a short-sleeve onesie. It is very easy for a newborn baby to catch a chill. If your baby is going to be born in fall or winter, you should definitely buy heavy-fabric, long-sleeved newborn girl dresses. Even with long sleeve dresses, you may need to dress your baby in a onesie underneath her dress.
In addition, consider how fast you expect your baby to grow. Obviously, you cannot foretell how quickly your baby will grow out of newborn size clothing. If you have other children, try to remember their growth patterns as babies. You may not want to buy too much newborn sized clothing, or else your little one might grow out of her newborn girl dresses before she gets to wear all of them! If you anticipate a large baby, perhaps buy some of the dresses you want in size 0-3 months instead of newborn.
